„Kinga Gajewska, posłanka KO, zatrzymana przez policję”
KO member of parliament, Kinga Gajewska, was taken into custody by police in Otwock, after making public claims about the policy of granting visas under the Polish government. After being released, she spoke on the incident and the underlying reasons that led to her arrest.
Gajewska highlighted that she was informing the citizens of the city about the issuance of 250,000 visas to African and Asian countries by Poland’s ruling party, Law and Justice (PiS). Gajewska stated that these visas were being sold in the market.
Contrary to the expected norm, a comment on the government’s immigration policy led to the illegal arrest of a member of the opposition party. Spokesman for the Civic Platform party, Jan Grabiec, commented on the situation: „For the statement about the government’s immigration policy, the police illegally detained a Civic Platform MP. But they are afraid of the truth!” He shared a video on Twitter showing the police putting Gajewska into a police car.
Donald Tusk, head of the Civic Platform party, also expressed his concern: „The police detain MP Kinga Gajewska, informing the residents of Otwock about 250,000 migrants admitted by PiS.”
After her release, Gajewska revealed that she had taken the opportunity of the Prime Minister’s visit to Otwock to deliver the message about the visas granted to migrants from Africa and Asia.
„Some people only have access to one station or one TVP channel. We are determined that all Poles will find out what has happened,” she said.
She added that after she voiced her message through a megaphone, the police apprehended her by the arms and led her into a police car. Despite other onlookers affirming that she was an MP, the police continued to restrain her, making it impossible for her to show her identification.
The officer prompted her arrest, citing displeasure with her behavior. Gajewska has yet to decide whether she will file a formal complaint following the incident.
